Kranzberg

The Hohe Kranzberg, with its 1,391 meters, is a true jewel in the Alps and offers a wealth of opportunities for nature lovers and mountain sports enthusiasts. Situated between the Wetterstein and Karwendel mountains, it is a popular local mountain for the people of Mittenwald. The young Isar river flows through the valley, past picturesque lakes such as Ferchensee and Lautersee at the foot of the mountain and Wildensee and Luttensee halfway up. The slopes of the Kranzberg are characterized by hummocky meadows, alpine pastures and cosy huts.

A mountain for all seasons

The Kranzberg is probably one of the most versatile mountains in the Alps. It is an ideal hiking destination in spring, summer and fall. Numerous paths criss-cross its moderately steep flanks and offer a wide variety of routes that can be reached from Mittenwald or the Krüner district of Klais. The most comfortable way to climb the Kranzberg is with the Kranzberg chairlift. Once at the top, the panoramic cinema at the summit offers a relaxing panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. The Kranzberg is also a mountain of flowers, where you can find everything from early heather and crocuses to carnations and autumn gentian. Rare orchid species even grow on the Wildensee.

The Kranzberg is a paradise for children in summer thanks to the tickling barefoot path and in winter thanks to the family-friendly Kranzberg ski circus and the toboggan run with chairlift.

Adventure and relaxation on the Kranzberg

From the mountain station, visitors can explore the barefoot hiking trail with its 24 stations or choose the path to the summit. Those who like a bit more speed can whizz down into the valley on mountain carts in summer. These sturdy aluminum constructions on three wheels guarantee safe fun for young and old. In winter, when there is enough snow, the legendary 1.6 km long toboggan run attracts visitors, where toboggans can be hired directly at the lift. The chairlift also connects skiers with the ski paradise on the Kranzberg.

Accessibility and service

The valley station of the Kranzberg chairlift is located slightly above the center of Mittenwald and can be reached on foot in around 20 minutes. Limited parking spaces are available on site. With the Alpenwelt Karwendel guest card, visitors staying three nights or more receive a free ascent or descent on the Kranzberg chairlift.

Opening hours

The regular opening hours of the Kranzberg chairlift are daily from 09:00 to 16:20.

A paradise for skiers and families

The Hohe Kranzberg in Mittenwald is a natural ski area that is particularly suitable for beginners and families. The ski areas at Luttensee, Wildensee and the Kranzbergbahn lift take skiers up to an altitude of 1,350 meters. In the children's park, the little ones can make their first attempts on skis and snowboards. Four cozy ski huts, the Kioxx at Wildensee and Peppi's Skiglu directly at the Luttensee parking lot invite you to stop for a bite to eat.

The Kranzberg thus offers something for everyone: from relaxing hikes and panoramic views to adventurous downhill runs and child-friendly activities. A visit is worthwhile at any time of year.
